I am often asked about fan clubs or UK fan clubs, or where to get the fan club kits from so I thought a page with the information collected together would be handy.
Basically, there is only ONE official Xena fanclub and that is the one run by Creation Entertainment in California
If you want to join the fan club, it is a little pricey, but the kits are pretty good. You get a very attractive box containing a blooper reel with an introduction by Lucy on number 1 and 2, and by Renee on kit 3, which is just out. You also receive a membership card and certificate - handy for seeing what authentic Lucy and Renee autographs look like, some quite nice A4 colour pictures and an A3 poster. Also you receive 4 issues of the fan club magazine The Chakram, which has interviews with the stars and staff and is really worth having. The magazine is quarterly so the boxes for kit 3 only have one issue in. The other 3 will be sent in about 3, 6 and 9 months respectively. However, Fan Club kits 1 and 2 are complete.
Q. I live in the UK can I join the fan club?
You can order online via the Creation Website at http://www.creationent.com/XENA/XENA_FAN.html. However, UK fans will get a bit of a shock at the postage. The kit costs $27.95, postage in $25!! This is definitely the case for Kit 3, partly due to the fact that they will be posting four times; the kit and 3 individual magazines. However, I don't know that kits 1 and 2 are any cheaper.
Alternatively, you can buy Kits 1 and 2 from UK Entertainment in Coleshill Birmingham on 01675 462472 or via their web site at http://www.ukentertainment.com, for £25 plus about £3 postage. If you want kit #3 though, you will have to wait or find a friend with a credit or debit card.
ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD YOU ORDER FROM ALAN BRUNTON AT DAYS OF FUTURE PAST IN NORFOLK. He advertised himself quite widely as the Official UK Xena fan club a few years back after he bought a load of fan club kits off Creation, but after cashing the cheques often did not send the merchandise in full. There was a particular problem with PAL versions of the blooper tape and the other issues of The Chakram. Several fans contacted the Trading Standards office over him and Creation have stopped him from selling any more kits. There is no Official UK Xena fan club, like I said Creation are the ONLY official fan club for the show.
This was received recently by a UK Xena fan from the local Trading Standards office about Mr Alan Brunton who advertised himself as the Official UK Xena fan club:
"Further to our correspondence earlier this month, I have spoken to the Police at Great Yarmouth and then subsequently to the Official Receiver at Norwich. I understand from the conversations that a Mr Alan Brunton was declared bankrupt on 08.04.99."
Q. What about fan clubs for Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor?
Neither actress has a fan club, all their mail should be sent to Creation Entertainment at,
Xena Fan Club,
100 W. Broadway Suite 1200
Glendale, CA 91210
But if you are hoping for a reply, don't hold your breath, you won't get one. Renee DID have a fan club that her mother Sandra Wilson ran, but it was disbanded a few years back.
Another useful contact for UK fans is the Xenanet mailing list. It is UK based, although there are a few non Brits on the list. There are about 200 of us, and it is a friendly list. So if you are looking to find other hard core nutballs in the UK it is a must.
Mail Maureen Hayden or Ian Rentoul or visit the Xenanet web site where you can join online.
