Avengers: Age of Ultron (12A)

Directed by Joss Whedon
Starring Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johannsen, Paul Bettany, James Spader, Jeremy Renner

I absolutely loved Avengers Assemble. I'm a big Joss Whedon fan, loved all the Iron Man films, thought the last Captain America film was great, and am anxiously awaiting an Agent Carter renewal. I even quite like Agents of SHIELD TV show. So why did this film leave me kind of cold? Marvel overload? Comic book movie fatigue?
Tony Stark and Bruce Banner do something computer-y and accidentally create Ultron, a super powered computer voiced by James Spader. They also tangle with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor Johnson) as Ultron tries to take over the world or something. There is also time for a Hulk/Black Widow burgeoning romance that I didn't really find that involving. It's all done pretty well, fast moving, the expected decent action scenes.
There are so many characters that even if you are faintly bored by Thor or Hawkeye (as I am) another one will be along in a few minutes. Spader has a great voice, but I missed the sly charisma of Tom Huddlestone's Loki. I have no idea what Paul Bettany's character was doing in there but that suit! Oh boy, hope he had a decent payday!
All fine, but just a bit meh!
