For Him the Bell Tolls

Director: Josh Becker
Writer: Adam Armus and Nora Kay Foster

Starring:
Lucy Lawless
Renee O'Connor

Guest Stars:
Ted Raimi (Joxer)
Alexandra Tydings (Aphrodite)
Karl Urban (Cupid)
Craig Parker (Sarpadon)

Joxer returns in an episode that involves the goddess Aphrodite who is annoyed about an impending marriage that will result in her losing some temples. She and son Cupid (Karl Urban) disagree, and Aphrodite decided to make use of Joxer. This episode owes much to the film The Court Jester starring Danny Kaye. Joxer becomes a dashing superhero everytime he hears a bell ring.

Notes:
Not much Xena, this was filmed while Lucy was still in hospital after her broken pelvis. All of the Xena scenes with Ted Raimi at the end of the episode were shot using her stand in. Lucy filmed her little bits later with a crew member in Joxer`s costume. Fun to look out for that. This episode also introduced the "classic" song Joxer The Mighty. Director Josh Becker came up with the first verse, Ted Raimi wrote all the others. Ted Raimi considers this one of HIS favourites.

Disclaimer :-
The producers wish to acknowledge the inspiration of Danny Kaye and pay tribute to the classic motion picture, The Court Jester.
