Xena and Gabrielle come up against a new female warrior, Mavican. She wants to take Xena's place with Ares, and so the god of war arranges a little test for them by transporting them to a Star Trek like arena place - and of course cheats as usual! However there is another catch - if Mavican kills Xena, she takes her place by Ares' side, if Xena kills Mavican, Xena dies! Meanwhile, Gabrielle's warrior skills are put to the test..
