Top Ten Fan Squabbles
Contributed by Gab and Sapph(again!)

10. Did Gabby and Perdy-boy do the deed in Return of Callisto????

9. Was the show about Xena's path to redemption, or Gab's growth into a great warrior and bard?

8. Season 5 was pants. Or was it?????

7.Chakram to the head: necessary to save Eve's life from a possessed sidekick or Xena being a tad excessive?

6. Long-haired Gabby or Short-haired Gabby?

5. Season 3's The Rift - who's fault was it then?

4. Joxer!!!

3. Rob Tapert - inspirational genius who gave us the best show ever seen on TV, or evil spawn of the devil who ripped our dreams apart?

2. The ending of the show - was A Friend in Need great TV or a betrayal of 6 years of emotional investment in XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS?

1. Subbers v. Shippers. (That's Xena/Gabrielle fans vs Xena/Ares fans.) A great area of debate, even though those Ares/Xena 'shippers have it SO wrong!!!

24th November 2002 - UK Fest News

Sorry, a bit slow to get the news of this out, but the next UK Midlands Xenafest will be taking place on 1st February 2003. Most UK Xena events have wound up now, but I know people still want a chance to meet up with Xena pals. So, mark it in your diary UKers and check out the Fest Page with details of how to book.

If you see the new James Bond film, look out for a familiar face. XENA actor Laurence Makoare you might remember as the lead barbarian in The Quill is Mightier and also Fins, Femmes and Gems plays the baddie's henchman, Mr Kil! Good to see Will Yun Lee from Witchblade in there too!

14th November - XENA Writer Dies..

Sad news today as the death was announced of Hilary J Bader, writer of Been There Done That, The Quill is Mightier, Forget Me Not and Locked Up and Tied Down. She was just 50 years old. Hilary also wrote for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and won an Emmy for the animated "Batman Beyond" series.

UK News - Early bird fans might try to catch XENA back on UK tv screens! Yes, its back on Sky One....at 5.10am!! Repeats of S3 and S4 coming up on Mondays to Fridays. Less welcome news, the final UK DVD release, Season 5 part 2 has been delayed until April 2003. With XENA selling well, its not clear why Universal Playback have decided to hold back this last set.

6th November - Xenaverse News

A few bits of news today on ticketing for Pasadena and UK DVDs. Creation are now selling the preferred seating for the convention, both the full weekend package($325) and also the single days tickets($61 for each day and Friday evening, $71 for the Saturday evening featuring Lucy and Renee.) They are still not making it any clearer if and when Lucy will appear onstage for a question and answer session.
Go the the Creation web page for more details

Meanwhile, in UK DVD news, the final XENA DVD release, season 5 volume 2 has been delayed until April 2003! Universal Playback were due to finish up the XENA releases in December, making the whole series available on DVD. According the the Universal Playback site, The XENA DVDs took four of the top five best sellers, so it can't be poor sales. Maybe they want to make it last??

Season 5 part 1 is out right now, so if you haven't got yours yet, get ordering here!

UK TV Alerts - Saturday Channel 5, 5.25pm - Hercules and the Amazon Women. Guest star Lucy Lawless.
BBC2 Sunday 11pm - The X Files. "Nothing Important Happened Today part 2" guest starring Lucy Lawless.

UK TV Alert - Sunday BBC2 11.00pm. "The X Files" - Lucy Lawless' guest appearance in the episode Nothing Important Happened Today I. Don't be late...her best scene in this ep is right at the start. Sorry for the late alert.

31st October - Lucy and Renee at Pasadena 2003 Convention

For those of you attending the Annual Creation XENA Convention,(you lucky people) both Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor will be attending. Taking place on 7-9th February, at the Pasadena Center, Lucy and Renee will also be doing some sort of evening entertainment together. No news yet on what onstage Q&A appearances they will be doing.

A great sounding guest line up includes HUDSON LEICK (Callisto), ALISON BRUCE (Melosa), MELINDA CLARKE (Velasca), PARIS JEFFERSON (Athena), CLAIRE STANSFIELD (Alti), DANIELLE CORMACK (Ephiny), MEIGHAN DESMOND (Discord), DARIEN TAKLE (Cyrene), VICTORIA PRATT (Cyane), ADRIENNE WILKINSON (Eve) and MUSETTA VANDER (Ilainus). (Where are all the guys??)

25th October - XENA actors Update

I went to see "xXx" with Vin Diesel today, also so-starring Marton Csokas - Borias himself! Marton gets to do the exact same accent as on Xena, and once again is a bad guy. Although I think Borias has much more depth than Yorgi - Marton's character. (I wasn't that impressed with the film.)
There is an online interview clip - yes, finally hear Marton's Kiwi accent -but it's a very dull interview. Also, look out for more of Marton in the director's cut Lord of the Rings DVD.

Paris Jefferson is just ending a run on stage in York, England in Frankie and Johnny, and I just found a rather nice online interview and picture of her, which includes a brief XENA mention. Read in here

Ted Raimi fans might like to know he has a guest role in the new show Odyssey 5. It's on Sky TV here in the UK, but I haven't seen it. Ted is in episode 13.

20th October - No news, but just to say hi to everyone. A new poll today, and if you're looking for Xena chat, why not come and join in at the Xenaville Message Board.

10th October - Creation News Updated

Another bit of shopping to add, for the wealthy amongst you. Creation have Xena's gautlets, arm bands and scabbard for order on their site. A "snip" at $300!!!. Also some Lucy and Renee photos for sale (at a bit less..) Check out the URL below
Sharon from the XENA fan club posted a preview pic of the bonus item available to those who order the XENA fan club #6 early can expect. It's a nice Lucy and Renee photo, presumably by the lovely Wendy Sparks.
Click here to see it properly..

Money to spare? Well you might head over to the Official Xena/Hercules Online Store. Those S1 DVDs - with a few extras - are available to order. There is also an intriguing little poll when you enter the site, about interest in Hercules box sets (Nah...) and a XENA film (Yes PLEASE!!).

The Xenaverse is VERY quiet right now so not much else to report.

30th September - Mr & Mrs Morpheus!

Popular HERCULES and XENA actress Gina Torres finally married Laurence Fishburne, best known for his role as Morpheus in The Matrix, in New York last week. Gina has been popping up all over the place lately, with a starring role in the new Joss Whedon show, Firefly, and she can be seen on UK screens this weeks and next when she appears in the fab Alias (5.30ish on Saturdays UK fans...) as Sydney's superspy nemesis, Anna.
Read all the details on the E! Online Site

For the Vicky Pratt fans in the UK, you might want to look out for the DVD of Mutant X series 1, episodes 1-5. I picked up the box in the shops last week and it includes a profile of Shalimar, Vicky's character.

By the way, do check out the new Top Ten :)

24th September - XENA Fan Club Kit #6 Announced

It's a heavy month for the credit card! Creation have announced details of the next XENA fan club kit, and as always its a pretty decent package if you have the cash. The fan club kit includes the usual items - some photos, certificate, membership card, A3 poster and the always excellent CHAKRAM magazine every 3 months. This years video is a must have by the sounds of things. Creation say...

AND, BEST OF ALL, A TWO HOUR VIDEO which includes the following:
- A collection of bloopers never before included in the fan club kits (from seasons 1-6)...
- "Coffee Talk 2" An exclusive professionally shot and edited documentary starring Lucy and Renee -- filmed in the summer of 2002. Our stars reunited and reminisced while watched memorable clips of Xena selected by fans! A warm and delightful discussion that you'll just love being a "fly on the wall" during! Sharon really delivered producing this documentary!!!
- Renee's Macbeth interview -- filmed July 24, 2002 in San Pedro, California. Renee appeared as Lady Macbeth this summer and shared her experiences as well as performing excerpts from the play. Another amazing club exclusive: wait until you see Renee in action on cliffs overlooking the ocean! Incredible! Once again, an amazing scoop from Editor/Manager Sharon Delaney!
- Behind-the-Scenes of "Friend In Need" -- new footage of the making of the final episode, again available exclusively only to club members!

All this can be yours for *just* $71.95 (an extra $8 for PAL video and a VERY steep $25 postage for international buyers), so head on over to http://www.creationent.com/xena/ for details and ordering.

18th September - Let's Go Shopping!

LOADS of great news on the XENA Shopping front. First, US fans, you CAN get your hands on some Season One DVDs at last. The Official Xena and Hercules Online Store is taking orders for the Season One box set. All the episodes on 7 discs, but no extras by the looks of things. Due for realease on November 30th for $99.95. Visit the site for details and ordering.

Creation have also been busy with their merchandise. Good news on the "Last Dance" DVD release, its going to be a region free release, so we should all be able to see it, as long as your TV can cope with the US NTSC signal.

Also from Creation, orders are now being taken (and your credit card charged no doubt) for the 2003 XENA calendars. Once again there will be 2 calendars. The usual high quality photo calendar, and the art department montage ones they tried out for 2002.
Visit the Creation Site to order.
They are doing those over-priced art print things again too if you are interested. By they way, don't know about you, but I *hate* the redesigned Creation web site! Frames.....grr!

18th September - UK News updates

UK fans hopefully got their Season 4 DVD part 2 this week.(Not got mine yet.) Now only Season 5 to go for the full set! The S4 release includes the episode The Way - the re-edited version, so I'm looking forward to that daft little speech from Lucy and Renee and the Indian guy.
Paris Jefferson(Athena) - who moved back to the UK from LA recently - will be appearing in Frankie and Johnny at the Theatre Royal in York during October. Check out their web site for details of the venue. Nothing on there about Paris yet, but if you are in the area, you might like to go.

Finally, some TV stuff to look out for. Two of my favourite shows (and both recently axed - scandalously!) come to UK screens next week. Season 4 of FARSCAPE is on BBC2 on Monday at 6.45pm. The BBC rarely publicise their Sci Fi shows, so watch out for it.
Also Monday, one of my favourite recent shows, WITCHBLADE comes to UK tv. Its on the Sci Fi Channel on Monday at 8pm.

16th September - No Final Emmy for Joe...

The Emmy Awards for the Creative Arts categories were presented on 14th September, including the "Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Dramatic Underscore)" category where Joseph LoDuca was nominated for the wonderful music from A Friend in Need 2. Sadly, he was beaten by a dratted Brit! George Fenton won for the BBC Natural History programme, Blue Planet: Seas of Life. David bloody Attenborough!
Shame.......

News is coming through about DVD releases for the US. I'm waiting to find out more details.

Last Dance DVD released!
Aren't Creation WONDERFUL!
12th September 2002

It appears Creation Entertainment have discovered the joys of DVD, as it was announced that the Last Dance video - Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor's appearance on stage at the Pasadena 2001 convention - is coming to DVD. And there are even extras! A few other snippets of Lucy and Renee at conventions in the past. It's being advertised right now at the Creation online store for $29.95 plus $7.50 shipping to the US and Canada, $14 for us international fans. By the way international fans, do make sure your DVD player can play US DVDs. It doesn't say on the site, but I imagine this is a region 1 NTSC disc.

Hopefully this will be the start of more XENA DVDs out in the US.
Go to the Creation Page to read more and order.

Dear Lila
well, the nights are drawing in now. It's times like this I wish I'd gone for a warmer outfit. Wonder what Xena did with the leathers? Come to think of it, what DID she do with the rather snazzy breast plate and those arm thingies? I still remember the time I got dressed up as Xena years ago. I was pretty hopeless then. Now me and the chakram are best buddies! Even Argo has warmed up to me.
That breast plate was really uncomfortable though...And not terribly good at protecting Xena either. The only place she ever got cut was on the left bicep :)
love
Gabby
